Write a newspaper article (200-250 words) for a local magazine giving your opinion about the heading below.
All kinds of street art
should be encouraged
You read an article in a local newspaper some days ago in which they supported this idea. You may support the statement, give reasons against or state both points of view.
It has recently been claimed on the news that all sorts of street art should be supported by our local government. Needless to say, it is one of the best proposals I have heard on ages, as it may help us to look at our own city in a way that it is urgently needed.
The idea comes from a local association that assures that art expressions such as graffiti, yarn-bombing, gardening or installations are but different ways to express people’s feelings, to provoke thinking and they may help us to communicate in more fluent or productive ways.
However, there are those who argue that all these artistic expressions are either vandalism or nonsense. To my mind, the only stupid and irresponsible fact is to maintain things as they are. The saddest situation for our city is to see how our most treasured streets are dying, condemned to obscurity, in the middle of garbage, cars, pollution, noises and our habitual bad mood.
To sum up, if we full our streets with colour, poetry and optimism, there will be no room for our usual apathy. We may find the way to care and appreciate our city not just for being the best artichoke supplier. If only we had supported this proposal much earlier!!
